Customer Story: How hi5’s IT Manager Protects Data—and His Time

As an IT manager with hi5 Networks, Todd Poletiek comes into the office each day with too much to do and too little time to do it. With over 100 end user systems, server backups, email, and a host of other IT functions to support, Poletiek must carefully schedule his time. So after a sales rep lost his laptop—and he lost an entire day configuring a new machine and restoring data—Poletiek knew he needed a better way to manage backup and recovery.  Full Story >>

Profile: High Cost of Lost or Stolen Laptops
According to a March 2010 study by the Aberdeen Group, for every 100 enterprise laptops that are issued, five are lost or stolen and 11 are missing. Of these, only one is successfully recovered, for a loss rate of 15%. How much does this cost businesses? Summing up seven cost factors—laptop replacement, detection and escalation, lost productivity, forensics and investigation, data breach, and intellectual property—a Ponemon Institute study estimated the average cost of a lost laptop to be a whopping $49,246, mostly due to data breach and intellectual property loss. But even when no sensitive information was lost, they estimate the cost of a lost laptop is more than double the value of the hardware itself.
